R-Truth will be going by his real (and former gimmick) name Ron Killings in his new WWE run following his shocking return at Saturday’s Money In The Bank Premium Live Event.
This is per Dave Meltzer, who reported that; “Ron Killings did ask for the name change to his real name as part of his new deal as many had suspected. The advantage is that when the new deal ends he will have had TV time as Ron Killings and can then go straight to using that name on indies and for personal appearances.“
Truth returned in a mask and hoodie to attack John Cena and the climax of the main event clash pitting the WWE Champion and Logan Paul against Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso. It occurred just under a week after Killings announcing over social media that his contract was being allowed to expire by WWE, shocking those in and outside of the company. The news of the release resulted in an outpouring of support that evidently convinced the company enough to sit back down with Killings and re-negotiate a new deal.
Amongst the terms laid out by Killings upon signing the new deal was the returned usage of his real name. The first relaunched merchandise since the axing of his “Ron Cena” shirt was a shirt initially released in March that is now being sold as Killings clober rather than with the R-Truth moniker. on WWEShop.com. There’s no indication yet of a future direction for the character, but a more serious tone is expected after this and the nature of Killings’ run-in at the PLE.
Killings last permanently wrestled as Ron Killings during his 2002-2008 run. He took on R-Truth upon returning to WWE, having initially gone by K-Krush and K-Kwik during his time between OVW and WWE’s main roster between 1999 and 2001.
